Growing our green initiatives has been a passion at Allied Printing for years now. We realize not only is an active sustainability program important to us as a manufacturing company, it is also critical to our clients, who prefer to partner with a supplier whose printing processes and procedures have a positive impact on our environment.
Today we are proud to announce our ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification! Allied is constantly working on continual improvement, a mindset driven by our ISO 9001:2015 Quality certification achieved over 20 years ago when few other printers had earned that status. We have earned recertification annually since, adding ISO 27001:2013 Security certification along the way. When our third-party auditors pointed out the many sustainability initiatives we already had in place, they suggested we consider working toward ISO 14001. This certification puts Allied in the forefront in utilizing clean energy in the production of our clients’ commercial printing needs. Triple certification is a unique position, one that benefits our clients, suppliers, employees, local and global community.
We aren’t stopping here! Allied is entering the final stage of completing installation on a 700kW fuel cell onsite. In a nutshell, this system converts natural gas fuel and air into electricity through an electrochemical process without combustion at the highest efficiency of any power solution available in the world today. The system runs continually and never shuts off. Combined with our rooftop solar array, one of the largest in Connecticut, we will generate approximately 85% of our own electricity for our 24/7 facility. Any excess is exported back to the energy grid, benefiting both residences and businesses.
